NDKC SSG Officers Join MarisTulong Community Outreach, Donate Summer Festival Funds to Earthquake Victims
GENERAL SANTOS CITY, July 9, 2026 — Demonstrating the Marist values of compassion, solidarity, and service, the Supreme Student Government (SSG) officers of Notre Dame of Kidapawan College (NDKC) participated in the MarisTulong Community Outreach for families affected by the recent earthquake in General Santos City.
The outreach initiative, spearheaded by the Marist East Asia Province in collaboration with various Marist educational institutions across the Philippines, brought together Marist volunteers to provide humanitarian assistance to communities severely affected by the disaster. The activity was coordinated by Br. Danny Fernandez, FMS, who served as the focal person for the initiative.
Together with fellow Marist volunteers, the NDKC SSG officers distributed relief goods to residents of several sitios in Barangay San Jose, General Santos City—one of the areas hardest hit by the earthquake. They were accompanied by the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Director of Student Affairs, Mr. Rico E. Nonles.
In addition to rendering volunteer service, the NDKC SSG formally turned over a donation amounting to Php 27,312.50 to support the relief operations. The donation was made pursuant to a resolution unanimously approved by the SSG, together with the Local Student Government (LSG) Governors, authorizing the allocation of the Summer Festival 2026 budget for earthquake relief efforts. In a meaningful act of solidarity with the affected communities, the student leaders chose to forego the annual Summer Festival and redirect its funds to the MarisTulong initiative. A portion of the donation also came from the SSG’s share of fines collected during the second semester of Academic Year 2025–2026.
The participation of the NDKC SSG officers in the MarisTulong Community Outreach reflects the College’s commitment to forming socially responsible and service-oriented student leaders who respond to the needs of others with compassion and action. By working alongside volunteers from fellow Marist institutions, the student leaders gained firsthand experience of the power of collaboration, generosity, and shared mission in bringing hope and assistance to communities recovering from calamities.
Through initiatives such as MarisTulong, Notre Dame of Kidapawan College continues to nurture a culture of servant leadership and social responsibility, inspiring its students to become instruments of hope and agents of positive change in society.
