NDKC Celebrates Unity in Diversity through YABONG 2026
Kidapawan City — Notre Dame of Kidapawan College (NDKC) came alive with color, culture, and camaraderie on August 28, 2026, as the Supreme Student Government (SSG) hosted YABONG 2026 at the NDKC Back Court.
Carrying the theme, “One ASEAN, One Future: Bridging Diverse Voices, Sustaining Shared Horizons,” this year’s celebration transformed the campus into a vibrant showcase of Southeast Asian culture, identity, and student talent.
YABONG has become a meaningful tradition in the NDKC calendar, providing students with an avenue to explore what it means to be part of the broader ASEAN community. This year’s celebration encouraged students not only to appreciate their own cultural heritage but also to learn about and value the traditions, beliefs, and stories of the other ASEAN member states.
Anchored on the principle that unity does not require sameness, the activities were designed to help students recognize the distinct identities of each ASEAN country while appreciating the common values that connect the region, including cooperation, resilience, and shared history. The celebration highlighted the importance of fostering understanding and solidarity among young people in an increasingly interconnected Southeast Asia.
One of the major highlights of YABONG 2026 was the Inter-College Painting Competition, which brought together participants from three departments: the College of Engineering and Computer Education, the College of Business and Accountancy, and the College of Teacher Education, Liberal Arts, and Nursing.
Competing in two categories, the participants translated the ASEAN theme onto canvas, presenting their interpretations of “Bridging Diverse Voices” and “Sustaining Shared Horizons.” Their artworks reflected diverse perspectives on cultural identity, regional cooperation, and the shared aspirations of the ASEAN community.
After the judging, the College of Business and Accountancy emerged as the overall winner, securing first place in both Category A and Category B. The College of Teacher Education, Liberal Arts, and Nursing placed second, while the College of Engineering and Computer Education finished in third place.
Beyond the competition, YABONG 2026 provided an opportunity for students to deepen their appreciation of the ASEAN identity and enhance their awareness of the cultures and experiences of neighboring countries. Through the celebration, the SSG sought to encourage students to become more open, culturally aware, and engaged members of the wider ASEAN community.
As YABONG 2026 concluded, the celebration reaffirmed an important message: diversity is not a barrier to unity but a strength that enriches it. By embracing differences while recognizing shared values and aspirations, the NDKC community continues to celebrate the spirit of unity in diversity and its role in building a more connected and collaborative ASEAN community.
