NDKC Participates in ASEAN Month 2026 Opening Ceremony and Cultural Workshop

Demonstrating its commitment to fostering global awareness and cultural appreciation, Notre Dame of Kidapawan College (NDKC) participated in the ASEAN Month 2026 Opening Ceremony with the theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together,” held on August 5, 2026, at the KCC Events Center in Koronadal City.
Organized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Regional Office XII, the event gathered representatives from various Higher Education Institutions across the region to celebrate ASEAN unity, diversity, and collaboration while promoting stronger regional partnerships.
Representing NDKC were Francis Arjane H. Panilawon, LPT, Xyriel C. Tolentino, RPm, and Daryl C. Barsarsa, who actively participated in the ASEAN Culture and Crafts Workshop. The workshop provided participants with an immersive learning experience that showcased the rich cultural heritage of ASEAN member states through hands-on activities, cultural demonstrations, and interactive presentations.
During the workshop, the NDKC delegates learned the traditional Lao basket-weaving technique known as “Kathip Khao,” skillfully demonstrated by talented T’boli artisans from Lake Sebu using locally sourced wild bamboo. They also took part in the “Sumazau,” a traditional Malaysian dance, where they enthusiastically learned its graceful movements under the guidance of the facilitators.
These cultural activities highlighted the values of craftsmanship, unity, friendship, mutual respect, and cultural preservation—principles that embody the spirit of the ASEAN community. More importantly, the workshop fostered a deeper appreciation of the region’s diverse cultural traditions while encouraging meaningful intercultural exchange among participants.
NDKC’s participation in the ASEAN Month 2026 celebration reflects the institution’s continuing commitment to promoting global citizenship, intercultural understanding, and regional cooperation. Through engagements such as this, the institution reaffirms its dedication to preparing globally competent and culturally responsive Maristas who value diversity and contribute positively to the ASEAN community.
