Diabetes Awareness Program Conducted at NDKC

The Diabetes Philippines, in partnership with the Philippine Center for Diabetes Education Foundation Inc., and in cooperation with Notre Dame of Kidapawan College (NDKC), successfully conducted a Diabetes Awareness Program on August 1, 2025, at the NDKC College Library.

Facilitated by Ms. Gay R. Sandique, RN, MN, LPT, and supported by the dedicated PNSA officers, the program sought to deepen the understanding of diabetes mellitus, enhance advocacy skills, and promote evidence-based health education among nursing students.

The highlight of the event was the lecture delivered by Dr. Floramae Zambrano-Jacobo, a certified diabetologist, who shared valuable insights on current trends in diabetes prevention and management. Her expertise inspired participants to pursue healthy lifestyles.

The event gathered more than 140 nursing students, Clinical Instructors, and PNSA officers. The program included a keynote lecture, an interactive diabetes quiz, blood glucose testing, and hydration support through the distribution of Pocari Sweat.

The success of the Diabetes Awareness Program reaffirms the College of Nursing’s commitment to nurturing student nurses not only as competent health practitioners but also as advocates for community health. Inspired by this initiative, the organizers plan to extend their advocacy to neighboring communities, further contributing to the collective fight against chronic non-communicable diseases.
